Warning: Misuse of the name 'Birketts LLP'

Invoices have been sent purporting to be from 'Birketts LLP'

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that invoices have been sent falsely claiming to be from 'Birketts LLP'.

The invoice seen by the SRA is for 'professional fees in connection to legal advisory services' and requests the recipient to make payment into a bank account for 'Birkett LLP' The invoice also gives the address for the genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The SRA has been advised that emails were sent from wawryka.kris@lgcollectionslimited.com and office@officeadminipad.com. The name Rob Puttick has also been provided.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called Kris Wawryka or Rob Puttick.

Any business or transactions through Kris Wawryka or Rob Puttick, wawryka.kris@lgcollectionslimited.com and office@officeadminipad.com is not undertaken by  a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Birketts LLP. The head office address is Providence House, 141-145 Princes Street, Ipswich, IP1 1QJ.

The genuine firm of Birketts LLP has confirmed it has no genuine or intended connection to the invoices referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
