Warning: A website for 'Green Probate Services Limited' claiming to be for a firm of solicitors
1 December 2022
A website claiming to be for 'Green Probate Services Limited' is cloning a genuine website and falsely claiming to be for a regulated law firm.
What is the scam?
The website at 'https://greenprobate.co.uk' is operating, and falsely claiming to be for a regulated law firm called 'Green Probate Services Limited' or 'GPSL'.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Green Probate Services Limited' or 'GPSL'.
The website has cloned a website of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The website provides an address of '132 Barnsley St, Barnsley Street, Wigan WN6 7HZ', a telephone number of '+44 1371 701 007' and an email address of 'clients@greenprobate.co.uk'.
Any business or transaction through the above website or contact details is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Jordans Solicitors (Yorkshire) Limited. The firm trades as Jordans Solicitors, using the website 'www.jordanssolicitors.co.uk', but also as ‘Wills & Probate Disputes UK’ through an additional website of 'willsandprobatedisputes.uk'. The genuine firm’s head office is based at Unity Hall, Smyth Street, Wakefield, WF1 1ED.
Jordans Solicitors (Yorkshire) Limited has confirmed that it has no connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
