Warning: Website and emails claiming to be from a law firm called 'Klaas LLP'
11 February 2022
The website 'www.klaasllp.co.uk' is operating claiming to be a law firm called 'Klaas LLP’.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that the website 'www.klaasllp.co.uk' is operating falsely claiming to be a law firm called 'Klaas LLP'. The website states it is authorised and regulated by the SRA.
The websites provide a contact email address of 'info@Klaasllp.co.uk' and a telephone number of '(0) 203 769 1624'. It also misuses the registered postal address of a couple of genuine firms of solicitors (see below).
The SRA has also been advised that emails have been sent from an individual claiming to be called 'Attorney Chris Klaas' from the email address 'chris@klaasllp.co.uk' in relation to a supposed inheritance of an unknown deceased individual with the same surname of the recipient. The SRA understands that a separate address of 'klaas@klaasllp.co.uk' has also been used.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Klaas LLP' nor does it authorise or regulate a solicitor called Chris Klaas.
Any business or transaction through the above website, email addresses or telephone number is not undertaken by a solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Atlantic Solicitors Limited trading as Atlantic Solicitors based at Suite 206 Island Business Centre 18-36 Wellington Street Woolwich Greenwich London SE18 6PF.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Kimberly Wayne & Diamond Solicitors based at Suite 207 Island Business Centre 18-36 Wellington Street Woolwich Greenwich London SE18 6PF.
Atlantic Solicitors Limited and Kimberly Wayne & Diamond Solicitors have both confirmed that they have no connection to the alert above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
