The website 'www.conwynorthlaw.co.uk' is claiming to be a law firm called 'Conwy & North Law Firm' and misusing the details for Bindmans LLP.

What is the scam?

The website 'www.conwynorthlaw.co.uk' is operating, claiming to be for a law firm called 'Conwy & North Law Firm'. The website seen by the SRA has copied and misused aspects of a genuine firm's website, including a lot of wording, photographs and names of genuine lawyers and an address (see below for details of the genuine firm).  The website also provides a telephone number of '+44 203 189 1244' and an email address of 'info@conwynorthlaw.co.uk'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Conwy & North Law Firm'.

Any business or transaction through 'Conwy & North Law Firm', or the above website, telephone number email address is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm called Bindmans LLP. The head office address for the firm is 236 Gray’s Inn Road, London, WC1X 8HB and its website address is www.bindmans.com.  The genuine telephone number for the head office is +44 20 7833 4433 and the general contact email address for the firm is info@bindmans.com.

Bindmans LLP have multiple genuine partners or other members of staff whose names and/or photographs have been misused on the website referred to in the above alert.

Bindmans LLP has confirmed that neither the firm nor its genuine partners or employees have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
