Vocational training for trainee solicitors

This guidance is to answer some of the common questions you may have about the steps you need to take to complete the vocational part of training to become a solicitor.

Glossary terms

Legal Practice Course

means a course provided by an authorised education provider which meets the prescribed requirements

SRA

means the Solicitors Regulation Authority

authorised education provider

means a provider recognised by the SRA as providing the Legal Practice Course or the Professional Skills Course

vocational stage of training

means:

  1. the Legal Practice Course;
  2. a required period of recognised training; and
  3. the Professional Skills Course.
period of recognised training

means training required under the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations
