An individual by the name of 'David Ricci' is purporting to be employed by CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.

What is the scam?

An individual by the name of 'David Ricci' is purporting to be employed by CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP and is fraudulently offering to assist members of the public in relation to cryptocurrency matters.

The SRA have seen a letter that describes 'David Ricci' as a 'Cryptocurrency Expert' and is employed at the London branch office of a genuine firm of solicitors (please see below). The letter misuses the genuine firm's logo and branch office address.

Any business or transactions through 'David Ricci' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP. It is an international law firm with a head office at Cannon Place, 78 Cannon Street, London, EC4N 6AF. The genuine firm’s telephone number is 020 7367 3000.

The genuine firm CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP has confirmed it does not employ an individual by the name of 'David Ricci' nor does it have any connection to the alert referred above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
