Stephen Owusu Addo has falsely claimed to be associated with Deton Solicitors Limited in respect of immigration matters.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that Stephen Owusu Addo has falsely claimed to be associated with a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) in respect of immigrations matters.
The SRA understands that Mr Owusu-Addo has provided a business card claiming to be for him at the genuine firm of solicitors, which provides the name and address of the genuine firm (see below).
The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called Stephen Owusu Addo.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Deton Solicitors Limited. Its genuine head office address is 28 Portland Road, South Norwood, London, SE25 4PF. The telephone number used by the firm is 02086170120, its fax number is
02081274546, and the email domain is ‘@detonsolicitors.com’.
The genuine firm of Deton Solicitors Limited has confirmed that Stephen Owusu Addo was previously employed by the firm but no longer has any connection to it. The genuine firm has also confirmed that it has no connection to any immigration advice being provided by Mr Owusu-Addo.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
