Warning: 'John Levitt & Co Solicitors' and a website supposedly for a law firm of that name
6 April 2022
A website at www.johnlevittandco.com claiming to be a law firm called John Levitt & Co Solicitors
What is the scam?
There is a website at www.johnlevittandco.com claiming to be for a law firm called 'John Levitt & Co Solicitors'.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'John Levitt & Co Solicitors'.
The website provides telephone numbers of '+44 (0) 7459341894', an email address of info@johnlevittandco.com and a postal address of a supposed office in Canary Wharf London E14 5RE.
The website also misuses the name of genuine solicitors (see below).
Any business or transaction through 'John Levitt & Co Solicitors' or the above website, email address or telephone number is not undertaken by a solicitor or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does authorise and regulate several genuine solicitors called Andrew Scott, none of whom are believed to have any genuine connection to the website referred to in the alert above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

Update 10 June 2022
The SRA has been informed that a member of the public has received an email from an individual using the name 'Andrew Scott' and the email address of 'andrewscott@johnlevittanco.com'. The email seen by the SRA related to a supposed inheritance of an unknown individual, who it is claimed shares the surname of the recipient of the email.
