Warning: Website claiming to be for ‘McCormacks Law’
31 January 2023
The website 'www.mccormackslawfirm.in-tnl.com' is operating, falsely claiming to be for 'McCormacks Law'.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that the website 'www.mccormackslawfirm.in-tnl.com' is operating, falsely claiming to be for 'McCormacks Law' (see below).
The website seen by the SRA provides an email address of 'info@mccormackslawfirm.in-tnl.com', a telephone number of '+447927812605' and a postal address of '25th Park Vista London' and another postal address of a genuine firm (see below). It also gives the number '+1 513 643-2770' for a 'free case evaluation'.
The firm claims to employ lawyers called 'Laura Griffinia March', 'Stevn Josephin' and 'Helen G.Paulson'. It also misuses the names of genuine solicitors (see below).
The SRA has also been advised that WhatsApp messages have been sent claiming to be from 'Mr Bemus' from the telephone number '+1(659) 223-5703' in respect of an unclaimed inheritance.
The SRA does not authorise or regulate solicitors called 'Laura Griffinia March', 'Stevn Josephin', or 'Helen G.Paulson', or with the surname 'Bemus'.
Any business or transaction through the above website, email address, telephone numbers, and the above named individuals is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called McCormacks Law Limited which also trades using the names McCormacks Solicitors, McCormacks Law, Arrest Defence Service and McCormacks.
McCormacks Law Limited has confirmed that it has no connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
The SRA also authorises a genuine firm of solicitors called Copper Stone Solicitors Limited whose head office address is 122 Mile End Road, London, E1 4UN. The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a number of solicitors called David Alexander and James Thomas none of whom are believed to be connected to the website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (eg. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
