Warning: Letter misusing the name of Kudos Legal Limited

The SRA has seen a letter falsely claiming to be from Kudos Legal Limited, in relation to a personal injury matter.

What is the scam?

A letter was sent falsely claiming to be from an individual called 'Jason Grey' of 'Kudos Legal' in relation to a personal injury matter. 

The letter provides an email address of 'accident@claimsassistant.co.uk' and a telephone number of '0161 818 2845'.

The letter misuses the name, address and logo of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Any business or transaction being carried out through the email 'accident@claimsassistant.co.uk' or the telephone number of '0161 818 2845' are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Kudos Legal Limited, which uses the trading name of Kudos Legal. The firm's head office address is Suite 28, Derby House, Lytham Road, Fulwood, Preston PR2 8JE. The firm's telephone number is 01772 693560 and the firm's email domain is '@kudoslegal.co.uk'

The genuine firm Kudos Legal Limited has confirmed they do not have any genuine and intended connection to the letter and does not employ an individual called 'Jason Grey' as referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
