Warning: Email from Lisa Martin claiming to be associated with Bott and Co Solicitors Limited

An email from Lisa Martin has been sent misusing the name of Bott and Co Solicitors Limited in relation to a mis-sold car finance claim.

What is the scam?

An email has been sent from an individual called 'Lisa Martin' of 'Car Finance Claim Ltd' regarding a mis-sold car finance claim with a telephone number of '01519471601'. The email includes a footer which misuses the name, address, Companies House and SRA number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Any business or transaction through 'Lisa Martin' at 'Carfinanceclaims@qualityservice.com' or '01519471601' is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Bott and Co Solicitors Limited. It does not have employ or have any association with a 'Lisa Martin'. The genuine firm's email domain ends with @bottonline.co.uk and the telephone number for its head office is 01625 415800.

The genuine firm of solicitors has confirmed it do not have any connection to the email referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
