An individual by the name of 'David Cook' is purporting to be employed by CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.

What is the scam?

An individual by the name of 'David Cook' is purporting to be employed by CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP in relation to a transaction concerning the management of a property. 'David Cook' requests a payment to be made in relation to the agreement and is using the email address 'david.cook@cmslaw.uk'. We have also been informed that 'David Cook' has used the email domain '@cmslegal.com' in correspondence.

Any business or transactions through the email address 'david.cook@cmslaw.uk' and email domain '@cmslegal.com' are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP. It is an international law firm with a head office at Cannon Place, 78 Cannon Street, London, EC4N 6AF. The genuine firm's email domain ends in @cms-cmno.com.

The genuine firm CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP has confirmed that it does not employ an individual by the name of ‘David Cook’ nor does it have any connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary.
