Warning: Emails misusing the name of Boodle Hatfield LLP

Emails have been sent falsely claiming to be someone from Boodle Hatfield LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent from someone purporting to be from a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).      

The email seen by the SRA requests the recipient to pay an unpaid invoice in relation to professional services. It states that the email has been sent from 'Debt Collection Litigation Counsel' at the firm.

The email addresses used to send the emails are 'katieocallaghan@boodlehatfieldlaw.com' and the domain '@boodlehatfields.com'. The telephone number provided is '02032907832'.

Any business or transactions through the email addresses 'katieocallaghan@boodlehatfieldlaw.com' or '@boodlehatfields.com', or telephone number '02032907832' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Boodle Hatfield LLP. The firm’s genuine email domain ends in @boodlehatfield.com.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a solicitor called Katherine O’Callaghan who is a Partner at the genuine firm of Boodle Hatfield LLP.

Boodle Hatfield LLP has confirmed that neither it nor the genuine Katherine O’Callaghan have any connection to the scam referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

The genuine firm of Boodle Hatfield LLP has confirmed that neither it, nor the genuine Katherine O'Callaghan have any connection to the email address referred to above.
