What is the scam?
The website 'www.charlesandersoncosolicitor.com' is operating, claiming to offer legal services through 'Charles Anderson & Co Solicitor'.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate a law firm called 'Charles Anderson & Co Solicitor'.
The website claims to offer various legal services and includes a contact email address of 'office@charlesandersonandcosolicitors.com', a postal address of Churchill Place, Canary Wharf London, E14 5RB United Kingdom, and a telephone number of +44 208 040 3986.
The bogus website falsely copies and misuses wording and content, including the names and photographs of individuals, from the website of a genuine law firm (see below).
Any business or transaction through the website www.charlesandersoncosolicitor.com, or the email address or telephone number above, is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Thorntons Law LLP (SRA ID 831290). The genuine firm is based in Scotland, not in London, but is regulated by the SRA in relation to certain work, including conveyancing work undertaken in England and Wales. The firm’s genuine website is https://www.thorntons-law.co.uk/
Thorntons Law LLP has confirmed that neither the firm nor any of the individuals it employs, some of whose names and images have been misused in the bogus website, have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
The SRA authorises and regulates several genuine solicitors named Charles Anderson, none of whom are believed to have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
The SRA also authorises and regulates multiple solicitors and/or firms who work from addresses based in Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London, none of whom are believed to have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
