Warning: Phone calls cloning the genuine phone numbers of genuine solicitors Caroline Roche and Paige Evans

Phone calls have been made to members of the public cloning the genuine phone numbers of two genuine solicitors who work for the firm of solicitors Duncan Lewis Ltd.

What is the scam?

Members of the public have reported receiving phone calls that display on the recipient's phone as being the genuine direct dial-in numbers of two genuine solicitors who work at the genuine firm Duncan Lewis Ltd. The phone numbers that have been reported as affected are '020 3114 1104' and '020 3114 1297' and the recipients have advised that the calls come through on their phones as suspected scam.

The phone number '020 3114 1104' is the genuine phone number for the genuine solicitor Caroline Helen Joan Roche (see details below).

The phone number '020 3114 1297' is the genuine phone number for the genuine solicitor Paige Evans (see details below).

The telecommunications provider for the genuine firm of solicitors has confirmed that the calls are not originating from the firm's network but are a result of caller ID spoofing whereby the true origin number of the call is masked by a legitimate business number.

Any unsolicited business or transaction through the above phone numbers, particularly if the calls come through as suspected spam on the recipient's device, is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Duncan Lewis Ltd. The genuine contact number for the firm's head office is '03337 720 409' and their genuine contact email is 'contact@duncanlewis.com'. The website for the genuine firm is 'www.duncanlewis.com'.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Caroline Helen Joan Roche who is employed at the genuine firm of solicitors (details above). Her genuine contact details are publicly available on the genuine firm's website. Any unsolicited calls from the number referred to in this alert should not be answered and the genuine firm should be contacted for confirmation that this contact is coming from the genuine Caroline Roche.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Paige Evans who is employed at the genuine firm of solicitors (details above). Her genuine contact details are publicly available on the genuine firm's website. Any unsolicited calls from the number referred to in this alert should not be answered and the genuine firm should be contacted for confirmation that this contact is coming from the genuine Paige Evans.

The genuine firm of solicitors and the genuine solicitors have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the fraudulent phone calls referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
