Warning: Automated Telephone calls misusing the genuine telephone number of 'Shacklocks LLP'

Automated telephone calls have been made appearing to use the number for 'Shacklocks LLP'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that a member of the public has received an automated telephone call purporting to be from ‘Amazon’ and claiming to have deducted monies from the recipient’s bank account. The message also states that 'a new phone is on its way…if this information is incorrect, please call back'

The SRA has been advised that these calls appear to be made using the telephone number of '01773 822333'.

The telephone calls misuse the telephone number of a genuine firm of solicitors. (Please see below)

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Shacklocks LLP. The genuine firm’s telephone number is 01773 822333.

The genuine firm of Shacklocks LLP has confirmed it has no connection to the automated calls referred to in the alert above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
