Warning: Website falsely claiming to be a law firm named Ricon Solicitors

9 July 2021

A website is operating, falsely claiming to be a law firm named 'Ricon Solicitors'.

What is the scam?

The website 'https://riconsolicitors.com' is operating, falsely claiming to be a law firm called 'Ricon Solicitors'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Ricon Solicitors'.

The website provides a contact number of +44 7451 274 875 and several email addresses ending in the domain name '@riconsolicitors.com'.

It also misuses the address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Any business or transaction through Ricon Solicitors is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or by an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm by the name of Moorehouse Solicitors. Its website is www.moorehouselaw.co.uk. Its office is located at Sophia House, 214-218 High Road, Tottenham, N15 4NP.

Moorehouse Solicitors has confirmed that neither the firm nor its staff has any genuine or intended connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
