Email sent misusing the name of 'Daniel Mark Myers' and the SRA relating to investment fraud.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen an email purporting to be from ‘Daniel Mark Myers,’ falsely claiming to be a 'Solicitor from Solicitors Regulation Authority'.
The email states that the SRA 'play a dual role in tackling financial crime' and 'often work on collaboration with organizations outside the law enforcement community'. It also asks the recipient for documentation and information relating to the supposed investment fraud.
The email appears to be sent from the email address of ‘danielmarkmyres@outlook.com’ and misuses the name and SRA identification number for a genuine solicitor (see below). It also provides a WhatsApp number of ‘+447534097947.’
Any business or transaction through the email address of 'danielmarkmyres@outlook.com’ or the WhatsApp number of ‘+447534097947’ is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorizes and regulates a genuine solicitor called Daniel Mark Myers whose SRA identification number is 668180.
The genuine Daniel Mark Myers is a solicitor at the firm CMS Cameron Mckenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.
The genuine email address of Daniel Mark Myers is Daniel.Myers@cms-cmno.com.
The genuine Daniel Mark Myers has confirmed he has no connection with the email or WhatsApp number referred to in the above alert.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority also confirms that it has no connection to the email or WhatsApp number referred to in the above address.
What should I do?

If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

The SRA has been informed that further emails have been sent to members of the public falsely claiming to be from 'Daniel Myers'. The SRA has been informed that these emails have been sent from the email addresses 'daniel.m@solicitors.dech' and 'daniel.m@solicitors.tech'.
Any business or transactions through the email addresses 'daniel.m@solicitors.dech’ and 'daniel.m@solicitors.tech' are not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
The genuine firm CMS Cameron Mckenna Nabarro Olswang LLP has confirmed that the genuine solicitor Daniel Mark Myers has no connection with the emails referred to in the above update.
