Warning: Phone calls misusing the name of FS Legal Solicitors LLP

Telephone calls have been made claiming to be from FS Legal Solicitors LLP in relation to a supposed bankruptcy proceeding.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that contact by telephone and WhatsApp has been made from two individuals called 'Rachel' and 'Nigel' claiming to from 'FS Legal Solicitors'. The recipient was informed that they would be subject to bankruptcy proceedings or other legal action if they did not make a £900 payment immediately.

The calls misuse the name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called FS Legal Solicitors LLP. The telephone number for the firm's head office is 01384 889 900.

FS Legal Solicitors LLP has confirmed they have no genuine connection to the calls referred to in the above alert and they do not employ a staff member called Rachel or Nigel.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (eg. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
