Emails have been sent misusing the name and contact details of Knocker & Foskett in relation to a supposed conveyancing matter.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that emails have been sent from an individual called 'Onur Parlar' falsely purporting to be from a genuine firm of solicitors in relation to a supposed conveyancing matter. The emails purport to attach a draft contract.
The email seen by the SRA was sent from the email address 'armen@intellicut.us'. The email included the telephone numbers: 01732 459931 and 01732 748848, the fax number 01732 459246 and a further email address of eac@knocker-foskett.co.uk. The email misuses the name and contact details of a genuine firm of solicitors and a genuine solicitor (see below).
Any business or transactions through the email address 'armen@intellicut.us' are not undertaken by an individual or firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Knocker & Foskett. Its address is The Red House, 50 High Street, Sevenoaks, TN13 1JL. The firm's telephone number is 01732 459931 and the fax number is 01732 459246. The firm's website is www.knocker-foskett.co.uk and the email domain used by the firm is @knocker-foskett.co.uk.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Elizabeth Connell, who is employed at the genuine firm. The genuine solicitor's telephone number is 01732 748848 and email address is eac@knocker-foskett.co.uk.
The genuine firm Knocker & Foskett and genuine solicitor Elizabeth Connell have confirmed that they do not have any connection with the emails referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
