Darcy Law is claiming to be a firm of solicitors in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that a member of the public has exchanged messages with an individual called 'Simmy Singh' at 'Darcy Law' in relation to setting up of a trust.
A website titled 'Solicitors and Barristers' at 'www.solicitors-barristers.co.uk/north-yorkshire/harrogate/darcy-law/' is operating. The website provides a postal address of 25 Park Drive, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG2 9AY', a telephone number of '0330 240 8969' and a link to another website 'www.darcylaw.co.uk'. The website also provides the following email addresses for 'Darcy Law': 'simmysingh1982@mail.com', 'info@darcylaw.co.uk', and 'paul@darcylaw.co.uk'.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate a solicitor in the name 'Simmy Singh', or a firm of solicitors called 'Darcy Law'.
Any business or transaction through the above contact details are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
