Warning: 'Invoice' claiming to be from a law firm called 'Elenox & Partners Law Office'

27 September 2023

An 'invoice' has been sent claiming to be from a law firm called 'Elenox & Partners Law Office'

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that an invoice has sent claiming to be from 'Corporate Head Solicitors Contracts' of 'Elenox & Partners Law Office' supposedly in respect of  'Contract-0053 Deposit P1-Admin'.

The invoice misuses the postal address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Elenox & Partners Law Office'

Any business or transactions through 'Elenox & Partners Law Office' is not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Kingsley Napley LLP. The registered office for the genuine firm is at 20 Bonhill Street London EC2A 4DN.

Kingsley Napley LLP has confirmed they do not have any connection to the invoice referred to in the alert above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
