Warning: Website claiming to be for 'David du Pre & Co. Solicitors'
15 July 2025
A website page is operating and missed calls have been received from a telephone number relating to a closed firm called David du Pre & Co.
What is the scam?
A website page is operating at 'www.internationaldivorcelawyer.co.uk' claiming to be for a former firm of solicitors which is no longer operating (see below).
The SRA has also been informed that phone calls have been received by members of the public that appear to be from a telephone number listed on the website referred to, and which relates to the former firm.
The telephone number used is '0207 4301950', which used to be the phone number connected to a firm of solicitors called David du Pre & Co that closed in 2022/2023 (see below in relation to the position of the previously authorised firm of solicitors).
Any business or transaction now undertaken through 'David du Pre & Co', the website 'www.internationaldivorcelawyer.co.uk' or the telephone number '0207 4301950' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA previously authorised and regulated a firm of solicitors called David du Pre & Co (SRA ID: 74414), but this firm ceased trading and was then intervened into in 2023.
The SRA also previously authorised and regulated a genuine solicitor named David du Pre, who was previously of David du Pre and Co. The genuine Mr du Pre is no longer a solicitor and has confirmed that he has no intended connection to the old, published website page referred to in the above alert, and he has no connection to the phone calls referred to.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
