Warning: Document misusing the name of Suzanna Eames and email misusing the name and details of Farrer & Co LLP

Documents have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor, Suzanna Eames and the name and details of a genuine firm, Farrer & Co LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a document titled an 'Sworn Affidavit of Facts and Claim' misusing the name of a genuine solicitor (see below) and an email sent to a member of the public by 'Suzanna E Berkowicz', purporting to be a barrister working at a genuine firm (see below).

The email was sent from the email address 'suzanna.berkowicz@farrers-chamber.co.uk' and references the genuine firm (see below) (incorrectly named as "Forrer & Co LLP") and its genuine head office address.

An identification card was also provided in the name of 'Suzanna E. Berkowicz', in which the individual claims to be a legal practitioner and legal counsel at the genuine firm (see below).

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual solicitor named 'Suzanna E Berkowicz'.

Any business or transaction through the above email address or document is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Farrer & Co LLP (SRA ID 447822). Its head office address is 66 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3LH. Its genuine telephone number is 020 3375 7000 and the email domain used by the firm is @farrer.co.uk.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Suzanna Eames with SRA ID 644385. Suzanna Eames is a Senior Solicitor at the genuine firm Farrer & Co LLP, and their genuine email address is Suzanna.eames@farrer.co.uk.

The genuine firm Farrer & Co LLP and the genuine solicitor Suzanna Eames has confirmed that they have no connection to the matter referred to in the above alert and that there is no employee at the firm by the name of Suzanna E Berkowicz.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
