Warning: Emails falsely claiming to be from the Solicitors Regulation Authority

5 July 2023

'Due diligence request' emails from 'no-replycontact@the-sra.org.uk' are not genuine emails from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

What is the scam?

Emails falsely purporting to be from the Solicitors Regulation Authority have been sent from an email address of 'no-replycontact@the-sra.org.uk'.  The emails we have seen claim to be a 'Due Diligence Request' and also provide an address of 'Solicitors Regulatory Authority, 12 Endeavour Square, E20 1JN'.

The emails provide a link to supposedly provide information. A concern is the link may contain malware.

The email address of 'no-replycontact@the-sra.org.uk' and the postal address above are not genuine contact details of the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
