A letter has been sent claiming to be from Alexander Karim Khan of Brindley Twist Tafft & James LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a letter has been sent to an energy company misusing the name of a genuine firm of solicitors and a genuine solicitor (see below).

The letter purports to confirm the authenticity of documents relating to the tenancy of a property.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Brindley Twist Tafft & James LLP SRA ID 557410. The firm has a registered address of 59-61 Coten End, Warwick CV34 4 NU.

The SRA regulates and authorises a genuine solicitor Alexander Karim Khan who is a partner in the genuine firm.

The genuine firm has confirmed it has no connection to the letter referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
