Warning: Emails misusing the name of Raworths LLP and Simon Morris

Emails have been sent misusing the name of Raworths LLP and Simon Morris.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine firm of solicitors and solicitor (please see details below). The emails were sent from the following email addresses:

  • buiv5181@gmail.com
  • dangngoc6797m@gmail.com
  • kietc8717@gmail.com
  • dolam9038i@gmail.co.uk

The emails misuse the name of the genuine firm as well as the firm's genuine email address, telephone number and head office address in the email sign-off.

The email sign-off also misuses the name of a genuine solicitor from the firm.

Any business or transactions through the above emails and email addresses is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Raworths LLP. The genuine firm's head office address is Eton House, 89 Station Parade, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 1HF and their contact telephone number is 01423 566 666. The website address for the firm is www.raworths.co.uk and genuine emails from the firm use the domain '@raworths.co.uk'.

The SRA also authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor called Simon Leslie Morris who is employed as a Managing Partner at Raworths LLP. The genuine solicitor's email address is 'simon.morris@raworths.co.uk' and these contact details can be located on the firm's website (details above).

The genuine firm and solicitor have confirmed that they have no connection to the emails or email addresses referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
