Warning: Websites misusing the name of companies associated with solicitors at Excello Law Limited

Websites at 'bornlawlimited.com' and 'preston-law.org' were operating and misusing the names of genuine solicitors.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that websites were operating at 'bornlawlimited.com' and 'preston-law.org' misusing the name of solicitors (see below).

The websites appear to have now been taken down by the host domain.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called Born Law Limited.

Any business or transaction through the websites 'bornlawlimited.com' and 'preston-law.org' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Excello Law Limited. One of its trading names is Preston Law.

Richard Preston is a solicitor at Excello Law Limited and works at Preston Law.

Richard Osborn is a Partner at Excello Law Limited.

The genuine firm of solicitors and the genuine solicitors have confirmed that they do not have any genuine connection to websites described in the alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

The SRA has seen further emails which have been sent purporting to be from 'Adam Jones' & George Bisnought of Excello Law Limited.

The SRA has been informed that a member of public has received an email purporting to be from a genuine solicitor named Adam Jones, the email was advising the recipient that they are working at Excello Law Limited.

The email has been sent from the email address 'adamjones.excellolaw@gmail.com'. We have also been informed that the emails were using the Excello Law Limited Logo.  

A further email was sent to the genuine firm pertaining to be from Excello Law Limited's CEO, the purpose of the email was to discuss some work matters at the recipient's convenience. This email was sent from the email address 'mailer.off35@gmail.com'.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Excello Law Limited (SRA number: 652733). Its genuine address is 110 Bishopsgate, London, EC2N 4AY. Its genuine telephone number is 0345 257 9449.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called George Bisnought (SRA number: 152853) who is a director at Excello Law Limited. 

Excello Law Limited have confirmed that they do not have a solicitor by the name Adam Jones working at the firm.  

The genuine firm and individual have confirmed they have no connection to the communications referred to in the above alert.
