Warning: TikTok account misusing the name of Danny Knowles and the company logo for Hogan Lovells International LLP

A TikTok social media account has been set up which misuses the name 'Danny Knowles' and the logo for the firm of 'Hogan Lovells International LLP'.

What is the scam?

The SRA have been informed that a TikTok account has been created misusing the logo of a genuine firm of solicitors and the credentials of a genuine solicitor (see below).

The TikTok account is under the username '@danny_knowles' and has misused the firm's logo. It also appears that there is another account '@vucagouk092' Danny Knowles, which uses the genuine solicitors name, but has not misused the firm's logo.

Any business or transactions through the above social media accounts are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor with the name Daniel Knowles and the firm of Hogan Lovells International LLP. Its email domain is @hoganlovells.com.

The genuine firm of Hogan Lovells International LLP has confirmed that neither it nor Daniel Knowles have any connection to the above social media account.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
