Decision details
Mr Davies has been granted permission to be employed at Veritas Solicitors LLP as a senior solicitor subject to the following conditions:
Reasons/basis
- Mr Davies' role at Veritas Solicitors LLP (the Firm) will be that of a senior solicitor operating in a support capacity. He will provide internal technical advice and peer-level support only. He will not manage a case load or hold any compliance responsibilities. His involvement in complaint handling will be limited to technical input and will be subject to supervision.
- Mr Davies' work will be directly supervised by Joseph Stewart-Doyle (SRA number 639449). In his absence, supervision will be jointly undertaken by Kashif Rather (SRA number 585289) and Safyian Rafiq, the Firm's operations manager. Supervision will be continuous and documented.
- Mr Davies will not supervise staff, confirm regulatory adherence, or act as a decisionmaker in compliance, governance, or procedural matters. All support provided to junior staff will be recorded and subject to regular review. Supervision will include oversight of all advice given and participation in scheduled audits.
- Mr Davies' work will be reviewed by an SRA-approved role holder. Monthly audits will be conducted under the Firm's Training & Competency Scheme by Mr Stewart-Doyle, with additional ad hoc audits carried out by the Internal Audit Team. These audits will assess both technical quality and professional conduct.
- The SRA is immediately informed of any proposed variation in Mr Davies' duties or his supervision arrangements. Any variation must not take place until permission is granted by the SRA.
- This approval will lapse in the event of Mr Davies leaving the Firm, with any intended return to the Firm requiring a new application.
- This approval and the conditions attached to it are subject to review at the absolute discretion of the SRA.
Other information
The above conditions are necessary in the public interest. They are reasonable and proportionate having regard to the purposes set out in regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations, and the regulatory objectives and principles governing regulatory activities as contained in section 28 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
