Warning: Communication misusing the name of SC Solicitors Limited

A telephone call was made by someone claiming to be 'Mr Anthony 'Tony' Pycroft' of SC Solicitors Limited regarding the release of Spanish Court funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a member of the public received a telephone call from an individual falsely purporting to be 'Mr Anthony 'Tony' Pycroft' of SC Solicitors Limited. They gave the name and company number of SC Solicitors Limited, stating they worked in its Dispute Resolution Department in London, and was calling in relation to compensation awarded against EZE Group by the Spanish Court.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate any solicitor called Anthony or Tony Pycroft. The caller misused the name of a genuine firm (see below).

Any business or transactions through 'Anthony or Tony Pycroft' is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

SC Solicitors Limited is a genuine law firm authorised and regulated by the SRA. Its only office is at 267 – 273 High Street, Erdington, Birmingham, West Midlands, B26 6SR.

The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the correspondences referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
