Warning: Emails misusing the name of Healys LLP

Emails have been sent falsely claiming to be from Healys LLP in relation to conveyancing payment details.

What is the scam?

Emails have been sent falsely claiming to be from Healys LLP telling the client that the firm has a new bank account with MetroBank for receiving payments in relation to conveyancing matters.

Correspondence seen by the SRA misuses the name, contact details, logo and genuine name of solicitors (see below).

Any business or transactions through email addresses using the domain of '@healyss.com' or '@healyys.com' is not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Healys LLP is a genuine law firm authorised and regulated by the SRA. The head office of Healys LLP is at Atrium Court, 15-17 Jockey's Fields, London, WC1R 4QR and its contact number is 0207 822 4000.

Healys LLP uses the email domain name of '@healys.com' (not 'healyss.com' or 'healyys.com'). The genuine firm's website is www.healys.com.

Healys LLP has confirmed that it has no connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (eg. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

The SRA has been informed that other emails from the bogus domains of '@healyss.com' and '@healyys.com' were sent attaching a bogus letter falsely purporting to be from the genuine firm.

The letter seen by the SRA again provided false payment details to a different bank. The letter again misused the name, logo, address and website address of the firm but also provided a telephone number of +44(0)20 6122 4000 and a fax number of +44(0)20 6122 4100.

Any business or transaction undertaken through these telephone and fax numbers, or documents providing them, are also not undertaken by a solicitors' practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
