A website at 'www.cleggs.f9.co.uk' is operating and falsely claiming be to 'Cleggs Solicitors'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a website at 'www.cleggs.f9.co.uk' which is operating and falsely claiming to be for a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The website misuses the postal address, email address, fax number, DX address and telephone number of the genuine firm (see below).

Any business or transaction through the website at 'www.cleggs.f9.co.uk' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA currently authorises a firm of solicitors called Cleggs Solicitors based at Apex Court, Ruddington Lane, Nottingham, UK NG11 7DD whose website address was www.cleggssolicitors.com. Cleggs Solicitors is not trading and is in the process of being closed.

Cleggs Solicitors ceased trading on 10 November 2023 and was acquired by Nelson Solicitors Limited. Nelsons Solicitors has confirmed that it recently closed the website for Cleggs Solicitors. The telephone number for Nelson Solicitors Limited is 01159586262.

Nelson Solicitors Limited has confirmed they do not have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
