Emails misusing the name of Edmondson Hall Solicitors in relation to conveyancing matters.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that emails have been sent to members of the public falsely claiming to be from a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The emails seen by the SRA asks the recipient to transfer funds in relation to a conveyancing matter to a bank account which is not associated with the genuine firm. The emails were sent from 'julia.martin@edmondsonhal.com' and 'camilla.east@edmondsonhal.com'.

Any business or transaction through the email addresses 'julia.martin@edmondsonhal.com' and 'camilla.east@edmondsonhal.com' are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm called Edmondson Hall Solicitors. Its genuine head office address is 25 Exeter Road, Newmarket, Suffolk CB8 8AR. The firm's genuine contact number for Edmondson Hall Solicitors is 01638 560556.

The genuine firm's email domain is '@edmondsonhall.com' (please note the second 'l' in 'edmondsonhall').

The genuine firm Edmondson Hall Solicitors has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.

The SRA have been advised that an email has been sent purporting to be the genuine firm of solicitors (please see above).

The SRA have seen an email sent to members of the public asking the recipient to transfer funds to a bank account that is not associated to the genuine firm. The email was sent from 'julia.martin@edmondshalll.com.

The genuine firm Edmondson Hall Solicitors confirmed that it does not have any connection to the email domain referred to above. The firm's email domain is '@edmondsonhall.com' (please note that there is no third 'l' in 'edmondsonhall').
