Warning: Website and emails misusing the name of Stewarts Law LLP

A website at 'www.stewsolicit.com' was operating, and emails were sent misusing the name of Stewarts Law LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a website at 'www.stewsolicit.com' was operating misusing the name, website layout, images and fax number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

We understand that the website stated that 'Stewsolicit' had offices in London and Milan. It provided the telephone numbers '+44 (0)20 8040 3797' and '+39 (0)2821 96445'. 

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Stewsolicit'.

In addition, emails have also been sent purporting to be from the 'Managing Partner' at 'Stewart's Law LLP' (see below). The email addresses used were 'cahilljohn784@gmail.com' and 'info@daedong.co.kr'. These emails were in relation to an inheritance scam.

Emails were also sent from the email address 'mobhasfaran@gmail.com' purporting to be from 'Mo Bbhasfaran'. The address provided in the fraudulent letter was '105 Saint Vincent Square London EC4A 3BF'. The telephone number was '01144203094' and the fax number was '01144203808'. This correspondence was in relation to a supposed unclaimed investment.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called 'Mo Bbhasfaran'.

Any business or transactions through 'Stewsolicit', 'Mo Bbhasfaran, the website at 'www.stewsolicit.com', the email addresses 'cahilljohn784@gmail.com', 'info@daedong.co.kr', 'mobhasfaran@gmail.com', the telephone numbers '+44 (0)20 8040 3797', '+39 (0)2821 96445', '01144203094' or fax number '01144203808' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Stewarts Law LLP. Its head office is at 5 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3BF. Its genuine website is www.stewartslaw.com and its telephone number is 02078228000.

John Cahill was formerly a Managing Partner at Stewarts Law LLP.

The SRA authorises and regulates a solicitor called Mohan Bhaskaran who is a Partner at Stewarts Law LLP.

The genuine firm of Stewarts Law LLP has confirmed that neither it nor John Cahill, nor Mohan Bhaskaran have any connection to the website or correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
