Warning: Website profile misusing the name and logo of Ashtons Legal LLP
4 August 2025
A seller's profile on a website for the sale of firearms misusing the logo and name of Ashtons Legal LLP.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that there is a website 'www.gungle.uk' on which a seller is misusing the genuine logo and name of a firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA (see details below) to advertise the sale of a firearm.
The SRA have seen images of a webpage where the profile for the seller of a firearm misuses the Ashtons Legal LLP logo and calls themselves a 'Company' by the name of 'Ashtons'.
Any business or transaction through the above email addresses is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Ashtons Legal LLP. The genuine firm's email domain is @ashtonslegal.co.uk and its website is 'www.ashtonslegal.co.uk'.
The genuine firm of solicitors have confirmed that they have no genuine connection to the advertisement or misuse of their logo that is referred to in the alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
