Warning: Letter misusing the name and details of Levi Solicitors LLP

A letter has been sent falsely claiming to be from Levi Solicitors LLP.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen a letter sent to a business purporting to be from a genuine firm of solicitors that is authorised and regulated by the SRA (see details of genuine firm below).
The letter seen by the SRA relates to purportedly surrendering a lease on behalf of a client so that he is no longer responsible for the properties. The letter misuses the logo of the genuine firm, their standard letter header and footer, their SRA ID as well as their genuine head office address, phone number, email address and website.
The letter is also purportedly signed by a genuine solicitor who is employed at the genuine firm (see details below).
Any business or transaction reflected within the letter described in this alert is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Levi Solicitors LLP. The genuine head office of the firm is 33 St Pauls Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 2JJ and their phone number is 0113 244 9931. The genuine email address for the firm is info@levisolicitors.co.uk and the genuine website address for the firm is www.levisolicitors.co.uk.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Navjit Singh Degun with the SRA number 593273, who is employed as a Partner at the genuine firm Levi Solicitors LLP.
The genuine firm of solicitors and the genuine Navjit Singh Degun have confirmed that they have no connection to the letter referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
