Warning: Correspondence and WhatsApp messages misusing the name of Linda Ali

Emails and WhatsApp messages have sent misusing the name of Linda Ali in relation to recovering funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails and WhatsApp messages have sent misusing the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor (see below) in relation recovering funds from a registered trading account on hold.

The SRA has been advised that the emails have been sent from the email address 'info@lindalawyer.co'.

The recipient of the emails was also sent a document entitled 'Lawyer-Client Agreement', claiming to be from 'Linda Ali Lawyer Office'

This document provides the postal address for a number of genuine firms of solicitors (see below) and the telephone number '+44 207 871 1233' and 'WhatsApp' number '+44 7716 649244'. 

Any business or transaction through the above telephone numbers '+44 207 871 1233' and '+44 7716 649244' or a law firm called 'Linda Ali Lawyer Office' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Linda Ali, whose genuine SRA ID number is 7008216.

The genuine solicitor Linda Ali has confirmed that she does not have any connection to the correspondence or document referred to in the above alert.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors M1 Law Limited, whose head office is First Floor, 10 Bloomsbury Way, London, WC1A 2SL.

M1 Law Limited has confirmed that it does not have any genuine connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a number of other law firms whose offices are at 10 Bloomsbury Way etc, none of whom are believed to be connected with the correspondence and documents referred to in the above alert

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
