Warning: Bogus website misusing the name and details of Askews Legal LLP

A website is operating and misusing the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a bogus website was operating at 'www.askews-legal.com' misusing the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).

The bogus email address of 'enquiries@askews-legal.com' and mobile number '+44 7897048053' were provided on the website.

The website appears to have now been taken down by the host domain.

Any business or transaction through the bogus website, email address and mobile number above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Askews Legal LLP (SRA ID 557129). The genuine firm's head office address is 5 The Quadrant, Coventry, West Midlands, CV1 2EL. The genuine contact number for the firm is 02476 231 000, the genuine email domain is @askewslegal.co and their website address is www.askewslegal.co

The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the bogus website or the details referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
