Letters have been sent to members of the public purporting to be from ABK Solicitors Limited misusing the name Barkat Ullah Khan.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a letter that has been sent to a member of the public regarding a supposed 'spray foam compensation claim'. This letter was sent falsely claiming to be from a genuine solicitor's firm (see details below).

The letter contains the genuine office address for ABK Solicitors Limited Unit 15, Rockware Business Centre, 5 Rockware Avenue, Greenford, UB6 0AA. The letter also contains a telephone number '02080404759'.

The letterhead seen shows 'ABK solicitors' in the top left corner, this is not the same as the genuine firm's letterhead.

The letter is signed off using the name 'Barkat Ullah Khan'.

Any business or transactions through a letter described above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called ABK Solicitors Limited (SRA ID 652687). The genuine firm's address is Unit 15, Rockware Business Centre, 5 Rockware Avenue, Greenford, UB6 0AA. The genuine firm's telephone number 0207 9988 210.

The SRA authorises and regulates a solicitor name Barkat Ullah Khan (SRA ID 492900). Barkat Ullah Khan is the director of ABK Solicitors Limited.

The genuine firm has confirmed that neither they nor Barkat Ullah Khan have any connection to the letters referred to in the alert above.

What should I do?
