Warning: Trademark emails misusing the name of Legal Access Limited

Emails have been sent misusing the name Legal Access Limited in connection with purported trademark ownership.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The emails seen by the SRA purport to be from 'Victoria Grace', 'Georgina Crowhurst' and 'Claire Hyslop', 'Registered IP Solicitor' of 'Legal Access Limited'.

The emails inform the recipient that a third party has approached the sender to register the UK brand name of the recipient's business, seeking exclusive rights to their brand name. The email invites the recipient to secure trademark registration of their brand name first and offers to assist with this process.

The emails were sent from email addresses 'victoria@tm.legal-access.co.uk', 'georgina@law.legal-access.co.uk' and 'claire@law.legal-access.co.uk'.

The emails include the telephone number '+44203 996 3532', the website address 'https://legal-access.co.uk/ 'and postal address '124-128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, England'. The emails also include the SRA ID numbers of '314982', '501579' and '424058'.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses, telephone number or website are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Legal Access Limited (SRA ID: 666080) whose telephone number is +447888393039 and email domain is @legalaccessltd.com. The firm address is 124-128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX.

Legal Access Limited has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the emails referred to in the above alert. The firm has also confirmed that Victoria Grace, Georgina Crowhurst and Claire Hyslop do not work at the firm.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Victoria Grace (SRA ID: 424058). Victoria Grace has confirmed she has no connection to the matter or email address mentioned in the above alert and does not have any connection to Legal Access Limited.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Georgina Crowhurst (SRA ID: 314982). Georgina Crowhurst has confirmed she has no connection to the matter or email address mentioned in the above alert and does not have any connection to Legal Access Limited.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Claire Hyslop (SRA ID: 501579). Claire Hyslop has confirmed she has no connection to the matter or email address mentioned in the above alert and does not have any connection to Legal Access Limited.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
