Warning: Email misusing the name of Anthony Walker purporting to be from a law firm 'Walker Law Firm & Associates' & Brachers LLP

Correspondence has been sent misusing the name of Anthony Walker purporting to be a Principal Solicitor at 'Walker Law Firm & Associates' as well as purporting to be a Partner at Brachers LLP (see details below), relating to an inheritance claim.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen documents and email correspondence which have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor (see details below) and purporting to be a 'Principal Solicitor,' 'Barrister' and 'Attorney' at 'Walker Law Firm & Associates' and purporting to be a 'Partner' at a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).

The email correspondence and documents seen by the SRA informs the recipient of the process to release inheritance funds of 'five million dollars', inviting the recipient to sign and complete a power of attorney document and a 'consultation form,' which bear the name of a genuine solicitor (see below), and providing the address '3rd Floor, 303 Whitechapel Road, London, E1 1BY'.

The documents seen by the SRA, relating to the scam also bear a letter head purporting to be from a law firm 'Walkers & Associates Law Firm'.

Correspondence and documents seen by the SRA, relating to the scam have been sent using the email address 'walkeranthony@walkerandassociateslawfirm.co.uk'.

The SRA has been informed that the recipient was provided with a link to a website, which purported to be genuine and give online access to the bank account of the alleged inheritance funds as part of the scam.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any firm of solicitors called 'Walker Law Firm & Associates' or 'Walkers & Associates Law Firm'.

Any business or transactions through the above address and email address 'walkeranthony@walkerandassociateslawfirm.co.uk' is not undertaken by any firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Anthony Walker (SRA 299157). Anthony Walker has confirmed he does not have any genuine connection to the emails and email address referred to in the above alert.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Brachers LLP (SRA ID 488062) and the genuine firm has confirmed it has no connection to the documents or correspondence referred to in the above alert and that it does not employ any individual named Anthony Walker.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
