Warning: Correspondence misusing the name and SRA number of Ahmed Makky, Solicitor

The SRA has been advised that emails have been sent misusing the name and details of Ahmed Makky and falsely claiming to be associated with Fournier Group Ltd and AKG Brands.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen emails purporting to be from a genuine solicitor and misusing his name, SRA number and regulated status.
The emails, which falsely purport to be from Ahmed Makky on behalf of Fournier Group Ltd and/or AKG Brands, were sent from ahmedmakky@akgbrands.com.
Any business or transaction undertaken through the email address mentioned above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine individual called Ahmed Makky (SRA ID: 7021801).
The SRA does not believe the genuine individual has any connection to the matter referred to in the alert above.
The individual has confirmed that he is not currently practising as a solicitor in England and Wales, has no association with Fournier Group Ltd or AKG Brands, and did not send or authorise the emails referred to in this alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
