Warning: Email from 'Marcus Larsson' purporting to be a Senior Attorney at 'Grosvenor Solicitors'

An email has been sent claiming to be from 'Marcus Larsson' of 'Grosvenor Solicitors' offering assistance in recovering an unclaimed inheritance.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen an email sent to a member of the public using the name 'Marcus Larsson' who purports to be a 'Senior Attorney' at 'Grosvenor Solicitors'. In the email, he claims to represent the recipient's deceased family member in relation to an alleged unclaimed inheritance.

The email was sent from 'feedback@hitched.email' and asks to contact the sender at 'marseng39@gmail.com' for details.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any individual with the name 'Marcus Larsson' or a firm called 'Grosvenor Solicitors'.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm called Grosvenor Law Ltd (SRA ID: 608057), however they have confirmed that they have no connection to the email referred to in the above alert, the email address from which it was sent, or any of the email addresses referred to within that email. The genuine firm has also confirmed that they do not employ anyone by the name of Marcus Larsson.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
