Warning: Email and website misusing the name of Andrew Kidd

A website 'https://www.theheirshiplawfirm.com' and emails have been sent misusing the name of Andrew Kidd.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a website 'https://www.theheirshiplawfirm.com' and emails have been sent misusing the name of a genuine solicitor (see below).

We are advised that emails have been sent to members of the public in relation to obtaining information concerning a deceased family member. The emails were from the email address 'andrewkidd@theheirshiplawfirm.com'. A contact email address was provided 'career @alphaprolab.com.my'.

The website includes a genuine photo of a genuine solicitor (see below). The website appears to have now been taken down by the domain host.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm called 'The Heirship Law Firm'.

Any business or transaction through this email domains or website is not undertaken by a genuine firm or solicitor.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Andrew Kidd, whose SRA number is 337564. Andrew Kidd is a Partner at the genuine firm C Legal LLP trading as Clintons Will Writing.

The genuine Andrew Kidd has confirmed that he does not have any connection to the website or emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
