Equivalent Means and Ireland Lawyers

You can apply for admission in mySRA once you have completed the pre-screening process.

You will only be able to apply for admission through this route if we have approved your Equivalent Means application.

SQE Regulations and transitional arrangements

We will be introducing a new, independent centralised assessment for all would-be solicitors in 1 September 2021 (subject to final approval from the Legal Services Board). If you qualify after then as a solicitor admitted by either the admitted by the Law Society of Northern Ireland or the Law Society of Ireland, you will be eligible to transfer through the SQE.

If this is the case, our principles for qualified lawyers will apply. This means you may be eligible for exemptions from some or all of the assessments. More details on this will be available in the future.

Solicitors admitted by the Law Society of Northern Ireland

If you have passed a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) and been admitted as a solicitor by the Law Society of Northern Ireland you do not need to pass any QLTS assessments.

You will be asked to upload:

  • a copy of your QLD certificate. Our website lists the QLD providers.
  • a copy of a certificate of good standing from all jurisdiction(s) where you have been admitted. The certificate(s) must be less than three months old and confirm:
    1. your date of admission
    2. that you are in good standing
    3. that you have not been subject to any disciplinary proceedings
    4. that there are not any pending disciplinary proceedings against you
    5. that you are currently entitled to practise.

We may verify this with your home bar(s).

Solicitors admitted by the Law Society of Ireland

If you are a solicitor admitted by the Law Society of Ireland and you are an EU or EEA national, you do not need to pass any QLTS assessments.

You can apply for admission in mySRA once you have completed the pre-screening process.

You will be asked to upload:

  • a copy of your passport evidencing that you are an EU or a EEA national.
  • a copy of a certificate of good standing from all jurisdiction(s) where you have been admitted. The certificate(s) must be less than three months old and confirm:
    1. your date of admission
    2. that you are in good standing
    3. that you have not been subject to any disciplinary proceedings
    4. that there are not any pending disciplinary proceedings against you
    5. that you are currently entitled to practise.
